San Diego Pictures and Weekend Plans
Second: Weekend Plans Dustin will be working the Saxet Gun Show this weekend so the house is getting a *thorough* cleaning while he's out. First on my list, the shower in the master bath. Thanks to Juls for the cleaning tips on that. I also need to clean out some stuff from the kitchen cabinets and the closet in the front bedroom. I'll probably give most of it to Goodwill or list it on Freecycle. I'm just tired of the clutter everywhere. We are still trying to find a buffet to put in the dining room for the extra dishes and glassware currently residing in the front bedroom closet. I saw a couple of pieces at the local antique mall that might work, but nothing's really "grabbed" me yet. My other goal for the weekend is to get a plan together to collect books for a book drive I am heading up for church. Our congregation is hosting a Fall Block Party for the elementary school where we hold our church services, and we collect books to give away to the kids/families that come to the block party. Most of the families at the school are low-income, so it's nice to give the kiddos some books to take home with them. I already contacted Bookmooch, and they were super nice but said that's not the kind of charities that really do well through their site. They did offer me some ideas, though, so I'll start on that this weekend. The party's less than two months away now. Oh yeah...I guess I should rest some this weekend, too. :-p Labels: updates, vacation

Quick Update
I realized last night that it's been a while since a real update, so here goes: Dustin and I are headed to San Diego next Wednesday-Saturday. He's going for a business trip, and I am tagging along. I still need to sit down and figure out what I want to do while he's in meetings. I've been to San Diego once before, so I have a vague idea of what I want to do. I'm mainly looking forward to the 72º weather. :) Thanks to Mr. Foley for yet another good time at your house on Sunday. It was fun meeting some of your other friends and the food was great. We need to get together again soon for the Star Wars marathon! Work's about the same. I've given up on the job hunt for now...there's just too much other stuff to deal with right now. I was really confident about a job here at the agency, but I didn't pass HR screening for it. I don't want to go into it, but the lady who was helping me apply for it kind of threw me under the bus and didn't tell me all of the qualifications I needed on my application. She also didn't try very hard to push my app. through, either. I'm hoping that something even better than that is out there for me, but I just can't handle the stress of looking right now. D's getting ready for another fun-filled school year as a fundraising rep., but this year will be a transition since his company merged with another one earlier this summer. He's had to work more than normal this summer, so I'm hoping he's had enough down-time to be ready to go again. He's been out hunting a few times and spent some time at our neighborhood pool. Starting this week the conventions and meetings start, though, so his summer's pretty much over. We talked about trying to go to Vegas next month, but I'm not sure that we'll be able to. I guess that's about it. The furr babies are both doing well - they had their annual vet visit and everything went smoothly. Minnie's getting a bit older and bit grumpier with each year, and Padmé just clings to me more. They're both still super sweet kitteh babies, though, and they keep us entertained. Hope you guys are all doing well... Labels: updates, work

Martinis and Two Beaumont References
Thanks to A, J, M, and D for hopping on board so quickly with my plan for us to go see Goldfinger ( Master Pancake style) at Alamo last night. :) I love that you guys go along with my crazy schemes so easily. As always, you were a BLAST to hang out with. J, thanks for being the DD and for dealing with parking downtown. And, of course, for the drinks at the "after party" here at our place. A, thanks for going with me and being a great girlfriend to hang out with. I forgot how much fun that could be. :) M, what can I say? You are the master of all James Bond knowledge, and my cohort in partaking of a Vesper martini. D, what a trooper sitting between M and I during the movie (and especially the pre-movie entertainment). Thanks for staying up late even though there were hogs to be hunted at the crack o' dawn this morning. Labels: alamo drafthouse, movies, updates

Since...
Four Foods Friday will take a bit more focus, I will post to say the following: You know it's been a long work week when you drink straight out of the remainder of the wine bottle while your dinner cooks. :P Labels: general silliness, updates, work

I'm still here...
but life's just been really hectic this past week. I promise to return this week with Four Foods Friday and Self Portrait Sunday. I can tell you that D and I saw Sex and the City on Friday and it was FABULOUS. We also went down to Texas Lutheran this weekend for our church's annual assembly meeting. We just got back about two hours ago and dishes and laundry await me. Hope everyone's doing well... ~Megs Labels: updates

My cat, the cheese connoisseur
Seriously, Minnie is a cheese nut! She knows when I have cheese in my hand. She comes unglued. But we aren't talking Kraft American (although she won't pass that up), we are talking $6.99/lb pesto jack, muenster, havarti, and the like. She absolutely cracks me up! I wonder if she'll ask for some of the goat cheese I'm about to open for my Chicken Stuffed Crescents. hmmmm... Labels: cats, general silliness, updates

I'm still here...
I haven't been online since Thursday, and it's been kind of nice. I wish it were for a better reason like a last-minute excursion to somewhere like Vegas, but alas, I've been sick. I started coughing really badly Thursday, so I stayed home from work Friday. By Friday afternoon it turned into a sinus infection (oh, joy). Dustin was super sweet and found me a clinic open on Saturday morning, so I got started on antibiotics. I'm gradually getting better, but it was a pretty bad one. As much as I hate that it ruined my long weekend, at least I only missed one day of work. There's way too much going on in the next two weeks for me to be out. I expect my online presence will be non-existent, even with those who chat with me online while I'm at work. If you need me, just email me gmail addy, and I'll try to get back with you. Juls - I am glad the new career is going well. Good luck with the night shift this week. Corrin - Got your cute card about the move. Hang in there with the job situation. *does eye pointy thing* I'm with ya, sister. :p Erin - Miss you bunches, Love. I'll get A-Man's bday pressie in the mail as soon as I can. I can't believe my Bug is going to be 10. :) Labels: updates

Holidays & Moving Forward
mood: content listening to: "Look What You've Done to Me" - Boz Scaggs - Urban Cowboy soundtrack I'm back at work today (came in at noon), work tomorrow, then a 4-day weekend. Doesn't get much better, does it? :) Christmas was nice. It was low-key, which is what I think we needed this year. There was good food, nice gifts, and the company of friends and family. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday as well. I'm actually looking forward to the new year. I'm ready for a fresh start. I hope that will include a change in job, too. I should be getting a call for an interview, but I guess it won't be until next week. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. I really need to move on from my current job. February 10th will be 5 years here, which is about 4 years too long. Not much else to post right now. I'll be updating my recipe journal this weekend with some holiday goodies, and if anyone wants to see our holiday pics, email me and let me know. Labels: updates

Finally...a real update!
mood: upbeat listening to: "Don't Look Back In Anger" - Oasis Good morning, all! Happy Tuesday! I've already been productive here at work and hope to get a lot done today. I even left the house early and got breccie for me and Karen to split, too. The weather's nasty outside, though. The high yesterday didn't get out of the 40s, and today it's warm and humid. Tomorrow...another cold front. Go figure. Texas weather's crazy. :P I'm having lunch with the girls today (L, K, and M). Not sure where we are going yet, but I am sure it'll be somewhere good. Maybe Ross' for a greasy burger? ;) now listening to: "Naked Eye" - Lucious Jackson Erwina, I hope you guys have power and aren't completely freezing up there! I saw some footage on the Nightly News last night of how bad that storm is! *eep* Mom & Dad, I hope you are having fun on your small road trip. Mom, don't spend all of your money at the Titanic exhibit. :) Oh...one final note: I started watching Tin Man last night. For those who don't know, it's a Sci-Fi channel miniseries that's based on The Wizard of Oz, but it's been updated, of course. I am pleasantly surprised how good it is. There are enough references to the original to make it fun for those of us that are fans, but there's enough new material to make it it's own story. "There's no place like the O.Z." Labels: updates

Around here somewhere
mood: good, but tired listening to: Mom's laptop chug along I know I've been absent from my online life lately. I can't even list off the things that have kept me away...it's all been a HUGE blur. Work has been busy (and will be for a few more months), Dustin's been very busy with work, too, and life in general has been a bit chaotic. I feel badly that I've missed so much...especially what Erin's been going through with Dot. I'm so sorry I didn't know all of that was going on, Sweets. I've sent Missy and Killer a message to keep an eye on her. I cannot believe Thanksgiving's come and gone again. Mom and I did go out early this morning for Black Friday, but we neither one found much. I did get a good deal on a 4GB flash drive. That'll be enough to back up everything of mine on the computer except my music. There's only a handful of songs I've gotten off of iTunes that would have to be replaced if worse came to worse. The rest are on real cds that would just have to be ripped again. *shudders at that thought, though* I also found a few dvds, but even those weren't great, great finds. We'll be going out again in a little while, but I don't hold a lot of hope. I'm just glad that most of my shopping is already done. I plan on putting up Christmas decorations tomorrow. I was going to do it this evening when I got back to the house, but I am just not in the mood. I am hoping I'll be in a better, more "ho, ho, ho and all that jazz" mood tomorrow. I want to decorate outside this year (didn't do it last year), but it's flippin' cold and supposed to be raining tomorrow. So, who knows when I'll get around to that. Labels: updates

Follow-Ups from previous posts
from 10.19: On a related note...anyone want my Marie Claire magazines? I originally ordered Shop, Etc. but that magazine folded and now I am stuck with MC through June. I don't really like MC and have enough magazines to keep up with. I feel bad that they keep going straight into the recycle bin. Is there anyone that wants them? I'll even be glad to mail them! from 10.22: Here are the pictures from the birthday weekend. There aren't as many as I had hoped. I wanted more pictures from going out to Graham's, but it was just way too dark. from 10.23: Comment with your answer to the following: What's the one song on your mp3 player that is your guilty pleasure? I only had one response...I'd love to hear some more. :) Labels: updates

I'm still here...
I know I haven't made a real "update" post in a while, and I promise to write one up in the next few days. It always seems like that once my birthday passes, it's just a blur until the holidays are over. Work has been and will be insanely busy until February, too, so the last thing I want to do is get on the computer when I get home. On the subject of work, any good joojoo you guys can send my way regarding work would be greatly appreciated. I'm part of a very high-profile project that *has* to be successful by Feb. 1. I hope you guys are all doing well. ~Megs Labels: updates

Birthday Weekend
Wednesday: Celebration began. Juli's package arrived! I finally had to put the card away...D was tired of hearing the SW theme everytime I passed the card on the window b/w the kitchen and dining room. :) Friday: The girls at work brought me pretty pressies and Trés Leches cake. Karen gave me a *beautiful* fall floral arrangement that she put together herself. Left at noon and enjoyed a quiet afternoon at home. D took me to see TNMBC in 3D after he got home. It was awesome! I didn't expect a whole lot from it, but it rocked. I'll never want to watch it in 2D again. :P Saturday: D snuck out early in the morning and bought me a mushy card and roses. I slept in and relaxed until about 11. Then we went into Round Rock and D bought me new boots, matching belt, and new western top. I love them. :) We also stopped at a nursery in Leander and both 2 trees for the back yard. After we got home we watched some TV and rested up for the partying at Grahams. Mom and Dad, D's Mom, and Jeff came over around 5 and we went to Jardin del Rey for dinner. After a *very* strong top shelf margarita (thanks, Daddy!), we came home and changed for the club. Thanks to everyone that came out...it was a BLAST! I am still tired and sore from all of the dancing and general merry-making, but it's well worth it. :) Some shoutouts: -Thanks to Karen for reserving the tables and dedicating Hollaback Girl to me and for making the night super special. -Thanks to James for trying to further corrupt me and keep me in trouble. -Jeff: I hope your first "honky-tonk" experience was a good one and that you'll go again next time. -Mary, David, Shirley: What troopers for hanging out with us crazy people! -Linde, Tom, Martha, rest of the work gang: I am so glad you guys all came to the party. Tom...thanks for the dance. -Hot Mama Sherry: Next time, don't be late spending all of that time teasing your hair! :) -Dusty: Thanks for all the dances, Baby, and more importantly...for never letting my glass be empty! -Lastly, to the group on the far side of the dance floor that encouraged my dancing to Staying Alive early in the evening...bless your hearts! Weekend
Saturday - Went shopping with Mom Saturday morning. Returned two things to Target that didn't fit from the night before and picked up one of D's Christmas pressies. Then continued to the mall where we found absolutely nothing. I blame it on the mall being in shambles from the remodel of the key stores. They are also messing up the food court. What was once a bright, colorful experience is being turned into another boring normal food court. We finished up the day at Bed, Bath, and Beyond where I did find a few items. Came home and finished the TV shows from last week, and then D and I went to Chilli's for dinner. Sunday - Just domestic bliss. Rearranging kitchen cabinets, organizing the pantry, laundry, lounging with the hubby. Labels: updates

Weekend in Review
Friday evening: -Dustin took me to the Red Lobster for dinner. I over-indulged BIG TIME. It was the yum, though. Saturday morning: -Slept in a bit and then headed over to G'town to go shopping with Mom. I finally placed the custom framing order for the two capitol prints I have that Senator Brown signed. Half price it was $235. :P We ate lunch and then I actually found a few Christmas gifts. I also got a super cute Christmas card address book from Hallmark for $3. Looks like about 50 cards will be going out this year to friends and family. Hopefully, I will have a little newsletter ready to go out before the cards do this year. :P Saturday evening: -Date night. D and I went to Alamo Drafthouse and saw Super Bad. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It was also a dirtier than the previews let on. The food was also good as always. We had chips & queso, I had 2 sangrias and the "Wild at Artichoke Hearts" pizza, and D had 2 Tecates and the cheesesteak. Today: -Slept in 'til 10. It was fabulous. Then got up and started massive amounts of laundry. Then off to HEB for groceries, and back home to clean floors. D went to Wimberly to deer hunt and will hopefully be home sometime before tomorrow morning. :) Labels: updates
