Did you know...

that this year is the 40th anniversary of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"?

Oh, that's why...

I stopped getting their catalog :(

I know I can get the same things from the other stores, but I really liked them being all in one place. :\

weekend in review + ebay for kitties

Thursday-Saturday: Floor installation. Too much to go into. See previous post for piccies. :)

Saturday afternoon: The crew finally finished D's closet, and the final cleanup/moving of furniture was completed. Barely had time to shower and get ready for dinner. Thanks to Mom&Dad, Ari&Jeff, Cary&J, and Dustin for a wonderful birthday dinner at Melting Pot Saturday. I had a great time. :)

Sunday: Laundry and lots of movie-watching and laying around. We were both totally wiped out from the previous week. Also made pumpkin cake and alfredo (with mushrooms and bacon) for dinner.

At some point during the night Saturday, Padmé lost her collar and tags once again, so that prompted me to head to the ebay seller where I get their collars:

bidding on this for Paddy, bidding on this for Minnie, bought this for Paddy, and bought this for Minnie

The Criterion Collection

The Criterion Collection is "a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, is dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements."

I have been slowly working my way through the now 300+ titles in the catalog. Here's what I have see so far (including Chasing Amy, which we own):

The List

I just added the following to the bottom of my Netflix queue:

Young Mr. Lincoln
Richard III
3 Women
Fanny and Alexander (Theatrical Version)
My Man Godfrey
Notorious
The Importance of Being Earnest
Grand Illusion
Seven Samurai
Beauty and the Beast
A Night to Remember
Diabolique
The Magic Flute
The Blob

Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't have all of these titles in the Criterion editions, but this will have to do.

Travel Lexicon

from Daily Candy:

arm restle
n. the ongoing battle waged with your seatmate over the middle armrest. Maneuvers include elbogarting (slow advance of the elbow to gain ground) and recline and conquer (capturing the armrest during feigned or actual sleep).

flight dependent
n. neighboring passenger who, flying solo, turns to you in search of company/a drinking partner/a date.

gabbin pressure
n. sense of obligation to chat to the passenger next to you during a flight. (“I’m just recovering from gabbin pressure — I sat next to a real flight dependent.”)

John the Laptist
n. the guy in front of you who reclines his seat until his head is in your lap.

mathzheimer’s
n. the inability to calculate a foreign exchange rate without elaborate financial and/or tech support.

touron
n. tourist + moron. (“Don’t even bother with the Louvre on a Saturday. It’s overrun with tourons.”)

travelanche
n. the state of affairs when one little thing goes wrong and then everything snowballs toward disaster. (“It started as a minor delay in Seattle and ended up a full-blown travelanche involving lost luggage, bad airport food, and dire intestinal consequences.”)

U.S.O.
n. unidentified stained object; mysterious mark on hotel carpet or bedding. (“Alexis refuses to stay at subpar hotels due to her intense fear of U.S.O.’s.”)

If I Had My Life to Live Over...

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
- by Erma Bombeck (written after she found out she was dying from cancer).
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love you's" More "I'm sorry's."
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it.... live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!! Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us. Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with, what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally. I hope you have a blessed day.

oooo...

this looks good:

"Seven days, 45 finalists, one World Champion. Shot on location in Las Vegas, Nevada, "Rank" takes us from the ranch to the arena for the fascinating struggle of the three highest-ranking bull riders competing for the title of PBR World Champion. The three contenders: Justin McBride, a third-generation bull rider; Mike Lee, 21-year-old born-again Christian, and Adriano Moraes, who has been riding bulls professionally since the age of 18."

side note: "Rank" made its world premiere at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival.

Even though it's Friday...

I am in a pretty lousy mood...

1) My allergies are bad today, and I feel awful.  I really can't leave early, though, because I am already taking off next Thursday and Friday.  So, here I sit, trying my best to get some work done and praying the day passes quickly.

2) Juls and Lee leave today for Scotland for the wedding.  I am sad because I will miss talking to her at work, but I am more sad that I couldn't be her maitron of honor.  The more I think about, the more I want to almost cry.  She was such a big part of our wedding, and I wish I could do the same for her.

3) My best friend lives too far away from me.  I can handle it most of the time, but seeing the pics of her and A at the Ren Fest up there made me miss them so, so much.  He's growing up too fast...I know he will be as tall as me any day.  I can't wait til they are here next month...I want to huggle them both to death.

Those are just a few of the things bringing me down.  I won't bore you guys with the other stuff going on...there's just some of it I don't want to share, and I don't want to bring you guys any more than I already have on your Fridays.  :)

explain to me...

why this is major news...

http://www.fodors.com/wire/archives/002118.cfm

Umm...the Smithsonian has always displayed those things in the Museum of American History. Is it because they are all going to be all together in a single exhibit or is it because they are moving the delicate items across to the Air and Space Museum?

The official SI story

Ooooh, I see...they are grouped into nifty themes! (Creativity & Innovation, American Biography, National Challenges, and American Identity) :p

google amuses me...

with it's messages.

Example 1: Spam folder in Gmail. After you empty it, it declares, "Hooray! No spam here!"

Example 2: Trying to log into Gmail and received a sever error:

"Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We're sorry for the inconvenience."
